You are on bed rest; you’ve had time to adjust. So let’s talk fashion, bed rest fashion that is. Is it important? Absolutely it is. Be honest, we all have a little vanity in us. No one likes to be bedridden, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on how you look. Through all my research online I never came across of list of Bed Rest Fashion favorites, these are a few of mine. Feeling good about yourself is really half the battle when you find yourself on bed rest.
Makeup, why bother? Might as well let it all go? Don’t you feel better on the days you make a little effort in you rush out the door? No one is asking you to spend an hour getting ready each morning; I don’t even do that now. When you are in bed all day every day it can seem pointless. But when you look better you feel better and you still have other family members in the house; you may even have visitors during the day. My first bed rest I really had the “who cares” attitude. With my second bed rest I was all about any kind of beauty pick me up! My son had to have a nanny, I had friends that came by to visit and bring lunch, and other friends who would drop by for playdates or crafts. Plus I felt so much better on the days I made a little effort. Dry shampoo, BB Cream and mascara can do wonders for a girl’s spirit. My sister and I joke that the hospitals should give this trio out as you leave with your baby, because these items are a bed rest and new mom’s best friend. Throw in a headband or hair tie and you can instantly feel more like your old self. I wish I had known about Birchbox, Julep and Beauty Fix then, I’d have had subscriptions to all three.
Clothes, I understand, you aren’t comfortable, you’re in bed, and you love your PJs. Who doesn’t love their PJs? Do you wear them all day now? Of course not, so make an effort to change out of your PJs each morning. If anything it will make you feel better. One of my girlfriends sent me the cutestyoga outfit while I was on bed rest. How genius is that? I wore it all the time. I was cute and comfy. We love our yoga pants now; love them even more when you’re pregnant. Make that effort to put on some color, buy your favorite tank or tee in several of your favorite colors. Keep sporting your favorite maxi dress or go online and buy a few new ones. One of the biggest trends currently is the palazzo or gaucho pant. It’s like these wear made for women on bed rest. They are wide legged, elastic waist and similar to your favorite PJ bottoms. Get online (one of my favorite bed rest activities) and order a new pair of palazzo pants, few pairs of leggings, tanks, and scarves. Not only are you stylish but your also comfortable. Layers are key and scarves will keep you warm in the chilly hospital, doctor’s office or at home. The added bonus is you can wear everything after you have the baby on you outings.
Hygiene is still important, even more so now when you are pregnant. You want to make sure you are keeping yourself germ free to avoid any extra germs sneaking in. This can be a harder chore when you are on full restricted and have to schedule baths. But there are other ways. What I love most about our Bed Rest Baskets is that we include hand sanitizer and adult washcloths. These area great items to keep bed side whether on home or hospital bed rest. These are available for purchase through our HRH online store, where you can send a Bed Rest Basket™ to a friend on bed rest.
Remember you have to do things for yourself, things that you love. This is what continues to keep your spirits up! My husband use to give me a hard time about online shopping when I was on bed rest. But that was “my thing”, I loved getting weekly “presents”. I enjoyed perusing Sephora, Etsy and fashion blogs and keeping up with the trends. Feeling your best is important, even on bed rest. Don’t let it all go, but adapt and adjust and find your personal bed rest style.
